As a player chops down a tree, log(s) will appear in their inventory. The player can then use the logs for a variety of reasons which include Smithing new tools, Construction of houses, shops, boats and clan stockhouses or for Cooking food.

While chopping trees, wood is not the only drop you can receive these can include seeds which are used in Farming, Chests which can be found locked or unlocked, unlocked chests can be opened for Thieving XP and extra drops, gems which some may be used for Magic and the very rare "Ancient Wood" which can be found whilst cutting at Kingswood Forest and Tirnus Plateau (Ancient Wood only drops if the player has a Scroll of Ancient Wood in their inventory which is a "Very Rare" drop and can be found doing any action in the following skills: Combat, Cooking, Fishing, Mining, Smelting, Walking(Speed), Woodcutting)

In order to chop a tree, a player will need to have a hatchet of a level they can use, and travel to one of the locations below, Click on 'Woodcut' in the Town Menu, you are now chopping Wood (Displayed in the main window). Every time the timer reaches zero, you will gain X amount of wood, which will be added to your inventory. The amount of wood you currently hold is displayed in the main window. Hatchets are wielded in the weapon slot and need to be equipped in order to gather wood, Hatchets can be used as a weapon and can also be used in Combat but as low level hatchets have low combat stats this is not recommended.

Releasing Squirrels

If you come across a Squirrel in your inventory this is because it is also a very rare drop whilst doing any of the same skills as finding scrolls (listed above), you can click them and once it turns red they are ready to be released in any of the forests marked with the image under "Forests". Once you are at one of the forests clicking the Red Squirrel in your inventory will release the Squirrel (removing it from your inventory) and leave you a gift (Seeds found at the forest it was released at).
