Welcome to the Pirate Profit Programme!

This has probably come out of left field to many of you. It is an effort to restore piracy to its golden age - and beyond. I want to make donating to the Pirate stockhouse not only fun - but better than selling to a player.

But how, ye scurvy dogs may ask? Simple! The psh is still built on the economy of early Syrnia. It's a bit of a secret, but wood prices were never updated in the pirate stockhouse. You can still make between 1.5-2.5, maybe higher - gp, per wood donated... Despite the fact that wood only costs 0.5gp in the modern economy.

Not only this, but the pirate captain has the power to open wood at any time, through tightly controlling brigantine construction.

Do you know what this means? It means that I can open wood to people at any time - allowing them to turn 32kgp of wood, into at LEAST 98kgp - or, if they're lucky, 163kgp or higher. That's between 60 and 130kgp of profit!

I will use this to reward donors to the pirate stockhouse, through this - the Pirate Profit Programme! If it is successful in driving donations of iron, I will consider opening it up to other resources.

=================HOW IT WORKS=================
When you donate iron ores or bars to the Pirate Stock House, post the amount of iron before and after your donation here. I will validate it, and if correct, I will credit you with doubloons for each iron ore or bar you donate (more for bars).

At any time, someone with over 65535 doubloons can request for me to open wood donations, and we can arrange a time for this to happen in secret. This will cost them 65535 doubloons, and allow them to donate 65535 wood - the maximum that can be donated in order to generate a donation reward.

To put it simply, 1 doubloon = 1 wood donation. I will allow the doubloons to be spent once you reach the cap of 65535, but you can continue accumulating beyond the cap if you wish.

If you want me to transfer your doubloons to someone, tell me in whispers (or ideally messages). Once a transaction is confirmed in this thread, it is final, and both parties need to agree to transact again. Considering each doubloon is worth 1-2gp based on how the dice roll... I'm sure you can do some trades ;)

I will always be curious to hear about how much you have received from your wood donations, so I can post it in this thread... Right, on to the numbers!

Determined by what exactly? People are just to trust you won't screw them. What guarantee is there you won't just decide arbitrarily that the value has changed? Not saying you would do that but I don't know for sure.

This is too open to exploitation, the correct fix is a real coded game update that introduces a greater incentive to donate these items, not empty promises from one individual. Devs may already have an update to this in the works that this undermines.

Prices are valid at the time of donation, Yuuko. If you've donated and I change prices, if you manage it before I do the edit to the price, you get the doubloons.

Also, I want to remain captain. You don't exactly do that by cheating the pirates ;)

That doesn't answer my question. What's stopping you from suddenly deciding an item is worth less regardless of demand? What's stopping you from just not honoring any of this? What's stopping a new pirate captain from just scrapping this entirely making everyone's points disappear cos they are arbitrary and intangible.

What he is talking about is trade in Value. Like how market value in the game changes, these trade in amounts are also most likely going to change. The points or currency you already earned wouldn’t be recalibrated because it’s already earned. That’s what I get out of it atleast.

I like that the Captain has taken the initiative to try and boost pirate contributions, and the wood reward would actually make you profit off of contributions which never happens. Pirates is one big money and/or Resource sink

Yuuko, there is nothing stopping anything from happening you are worried about. I would say if it worries you to lose them possibly from a captain change, or if Brom goes off the deep end, I would suggest playing it safe and not trading in for Pirate Crypto. Some people play stocks and others don’t, to each there own at the end of the day. Whatever your comfortable with.

If I change prices, you keep your doubloons - it'll only impact donations made AFTER the pricechange.
If I doublecross you, you can always... You know... Announce my invasions to [2]? The captain leads with the consent of the pirates, and the best way to lose that consent is to cheat them.

As for other captains abandoning the system? Well, they'd be fools to miss out on the increase in donations I expect this will drive if fully adopted.

To be clear I have no issue with the captain introducing incentives to donate. I just think this has too many obvious holes. We all know this game has plenty of folks who are petty enough to camp the SH in an attempt to snipe a wood donation out from under someone. There is absolutely no mechanical protection against the conversion of these.


Anyone who buys into this in its current form is taking a gigantic risk and would be better off just selling the resources elsewhere rather than donating. It's the safer investment. Trade it for tangible gp or items that are mechanically supported by the game or trade it for imaginary good boy points with no guarantees of a safe conversion and no guarantee they won't get scammed by the designer of the system. To clarify that final statement, I don't mean it in any accusatory manner, just that all the power of this system sits in Broms hands. The very idea of a cryptocurrency is to be decentralised which this is the complete opposite of.

Yuuko; the protection is that nobody is going to be staring at the wood stocks 24/7, it'll take only a few minutes for a trade to go through and people aren't gonna be able to predict when it happens.

I've done a lot of drop-trades, and i've never had one pilfered yet.

Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't.

And again; i'm pirate captain. People have a very real way to mess with me if I mess with them too hard. In such a way that it removes this system from my control, and passes it to Nymph... Who would probably also wanna maintain this. Everyone who COULD ruin it has every incentive to maintain it.
