Greetings Syrnians,

On behalf of the development team I would like to introduce you to what should be a series of occasional updates briefly mentioning what content that the Syrnia Development Team are expecting to bring out over the coming months.

Please note, many of these items are currently in planning and development, it will not be possible to release specifics of how any of the upcoming features will work. We also don't quite want to spoil any surprises of these items either. We also won't be able to advise on any specific dates at this time although as projects get closer to completion we may choose to do so.

1 - Tirnus Spelunking
Many of you have been wondering what's happening up at the top of Mount Tirnus. It's been there for quite a while and supposedly a group of explorers are doing excavation work up there in the caves. While we cannot say too much, I believe they were saying there might be an extensive larger cave system hidden behind some of the huge rock walls. Who knows what was sealed away up there...at least we hope it wasn't Moddles' laundry basket, yikes the socks!

2 - Bootleg Pirate Update

Pirates of Syrnia, rejoice. We are currently in discussion with a small focus group of players looking to update this sizable faction of the player base to bring them up to date with some new mechanics. While this is still in development and may take some time, the new features under review would see changes to captaincy, invasion and planning mechanics, even the island itself which should give them opportunities to continue their ruthless pillaging of the Syrnia mainland. What utter scoundrels!

3 - Second wave of bosses
Hoping to eventually give Anders five minutes to sit down, have a cup of tea and a biscuit, the team are working on some new bosses to further test your skills. These ones will feature more new abilities and mechanics, their own unique collectables and some may have their own skill or item dependent actions. Needless to say after the perfect and flawless release of the first batch (mostly), these new ones should continue to test your abilities and raise the difficulty slightly.

4 - Every Vote Counts
We want you...to vote for and support Syrnia!

We are currently in the process of overhauling the voting and Syrnia promotion options that were available, including changing how we reward for referring friends to join the community as well as what you get for supporting us on various gaming websites.

5 - And now for something completely different
Finally, Syrnia will be looking to add a new seventeenth skill in the near future, haven't had one added since 2006*! We're not saying what it involves yet or how to do it but let's just say we hope you'll enjoy it. A few new resources here and there, new work options, plenty to think about!

That's all for the time being. We hope that this will allow you, the players, to understand where our current priorities are at the moment and perhaps get an insight on what we are working towards. We will of course continue with the Business as Usual like bug fixes, tweaks to existing mechanics and the like while we go ahead with these projects however now you should all start to see what projects we have on the go.

Askeladd - If you notice most of the negative comments on here are from long term players who are really tired of game staff just throwing out updates that are never fixed from the get go. Freddo814 and multiple players on this post for many years have asked for things such as the pirates/ battlemage / orb issues /market prices for items that have been around for years and years etc... to be fixed and nothing has been done. That is why players no longer give suggestions about these things because it doesn't matter if you keep adding things to the game when the main mechanics of the game don't make sense. The only comment or explanation you get in return from "game staff" is "it's just random" or "we're working on it". The scrolls were a disaster with no remedy or changes to that update from the game staff even with all the outcry from the community so.... who is it really that is causing the animosity.

While updates are nice there are soo many other items players would really rather see fixed and would actually motivate players to stay. I appreciate the efforts being made but again when the community has spoken up multiple times over multiple years and those concerns are not addressed it's just pointless to continue .

If you will permit me, I would like to just fact check some statements made there by yourself BCNU.

So lets break this down...

I understand your points made, I feel like players should have a means to voice their concerns and suggestions it is what the feedback area is for, a few things mentioned though have been addressed by admin and staff in the past on more than one occasion and attempts have been made to address the issues for example if I may.

pirates/ battlemage / orb issues /market prices for items that have been around for years and years etc... to be fixed and nothing has been done.

Pirates has been addressed a good few times in public in forums and in pirate chat discussing through mod voice and player names the goings on with pirates and what is taking so long, it was even addressed within this post, players under the pirate faction have been monitored and kept in the loop through various efforts in order to make sure the best outcome in the pirate update is met, and it is a direction they are happy with not just the creation of a select few and what they want something to be, I am sure the players can understand that this is a process that takes time, dev can rush an overhaul or they can make sure the input of the players and those it affects is heard and taken into consideration.

the issue in regards to a player ransoming or blocking pirates was a completely separate issue that was between that player and Moderation a different section with their own rules and ways of doing things.

Battlemage was addressed when Borneo took control of the game, he stated the BM would not be fixed but overhauled meaning it was low priority because it was a big task. fixes were made and attempted numerous times and explained to players but for reasons were unsuccessful, similar to pirates a fix can be rushed or an overhaul to meet one mans ideas can be rushed or a similar process to take it slow and accumulate information, concepts and progressive ideas can be done and in turn over time create something befitting the ideas of those who use it and create something enjoyable.

Orb fix was attempted a few times and again was unsuccessful but was tested extensively within the testing site, it was once again explained from a player and known admin the break was not fixed and reverted but since then has been tried again.

Market prices were again addressed and a reasoning was given as to why the market prices would not be amended or new ones added which were along the lines of gold income into the game.

Bugs are a known issue but the bug mod when they started within a few months had gotten the tickets that were unsolved or unanswered down from well into the hundreds to below 20, the issues were resolved successfully through most efforts made, but again is monitored and fixed or re-fixed where need to if a fix does not quite work.


so now if I could address the main point about reasoning why players are tired of suggesting things or raising points.

That is why players no longer give suggestions about these things because it doesn't matter if you keep adding things to the game when the main mechanics of the game don't make sense. No one here will tell you scrolls was perfect, it was a mess of mixed ideas and emotions about how to handle things, but once again I bring your attention to the efforts made through balancing and drop rates which statistically shown from players themselves has altered over time and made a difference.

communication was made as well all be it too late but that is a learning curve that has now led us to this point in time where efforts in Communication are being made, roadmaps was something not even considered before scrolls but here we are on a post created by a dev discussing future plans.

looking to the future not the past I think every player should voice their concerns and opinions or ideas and not feel like it will just fall on deaf ears, I think strides are being made by players who are voluntary and at the end of the day mere humans, so lets take advantage of where we are at not where the game was over the 15 years and hopefully more turning points can be made to improve overall.

Everything said here was addressed by the Admin, Devs and in some areas fixs or changes were attempted, some worked and stayed some were reverted, again this was made clear to players through various means. Did you miss these?

Scrolls, drop changes were made significantly a few times to increase scroll drop rates, to say nothing was done or attempted to fix scrolls is rather silly. now there is still some work here granted and nothing was mentioned in the road map about scrolls, take this as you will.

yes the communication issue was a serious thing, no one is saying otherwise at least not to my knowledge, but efforts were made eventually, its a learning curve for a team that is new, some have not worked on games, plus it was the first real addition that was not something that fit the syrnia mentality so how to address it, release it and deal with it was a learn on the job thing that took a lot out of the small team behind the scenes.

FYI when i started as bug mod I fixed more than 200 tickets and reduced the tickets from in the hundreds down to under 20 within the first few months of my role.

some were successful, some needed more time and work.

other additions were made with Borneo at the helm but since Covid he has been MIA and since before that he had commitments to family, to say Updates were pointless because it was never polished or finished is again a rather unfair way of looking at things.

Borneo held the cards for a lot of things and progressively we are still working from his vision with a few things, be him around or not he is still the owner and to change something he has a plan for or rather remove something he has stated to be added is just not on the cards.

These were addressed publicly, attempts were made on some or most of these updates and were publicly spoken about.

contact has been with pirates for a while now regarding their update and pirates are fully in the loop and know of the update and direction devs are wanting to take it. not that they know the final plan but they understand the stages the team is at and the time going into the update. they do not know when it will go live or what is in store but they have given enough solid input to understand the kind of direction its going and that stuff is being done.

a lot of other smaller updates that were unpolished or not finished is down to utilising the Borneo concepts that were left to the etam but since Born has been MIA with Covid and RL stuff it has been difficult to persue the final concepts for these updates and they sadly remain in Limbo, there is not much to be done about these like Skeletons from Dino drop as one example that came into forums, unless we usurp the concept and finish it in the devs design over Borneo but that will then likely lead to more work altering it to his vision if and when the boss guy returns.

Just get rid of the scrolls already. I have played this game over 10 years and through all those times of missing admins and no updates for years at times, it's the scrolls that have made me want to quit.

I don't want to see a single update that expands on anything on Calmere, when I am still locked out of half the content from the last update. Adding further content locked behind the existing block would just make people more unhappy.

I would strongly advise against selling scrolls, there seems to be a restriction in place that you can get every type of scroll only once (which makes it even more silly).

askeladd - Be good to dig up the old Borneo notes and look at the plan for these after the current stuff is finished and polished of course.

So if it takes Borneo to polish and finish previous updates then who is in charge of these new updates and how are they able to do them? You're answer to why other things haven't been fixed totally contradicts any updates at all. If Borneo isn't around then how are there updates at all. You are telling me you can put in new content but can't do something so simple as putting a price on ogre shields etc... or just take the skeletons out of the game for the time being or fixing the orb issue so players aren't constantly confused about where they can use them. I find that very hard to believe. It seems more like the staff doesn't care about "current" issues but instead seem to be concentrating on "new" updates that are beneficial to certain players.

This is again the circle talk that players are sick of and is the main reason why players are leaving.

it does not take Borneo to finish something, I was agreeing with the comments that it would be good to get something done, however like I said here we can not just go out and undo the concept the Owner wants, but there are notes and conversations around for Devs to paint the picture he wanted and potentially finish small updates like the Skeletons and Dino's.

I apologise for the misunderstanding, I have also been away for a few days, it is Christmas season so work is incredibly busy.

I like the road map idea, I like the road map itself but since I left the team I can not directly say what is doable and what is not.

With that said I do agree with you to some degree BCNU, I would love the smaller things finished, I would love the small things tweaked, I would love some time dedicated to polishing instead of brand new.

I am not here trying to create more conflict I was in agreement somewhat to what you have said I was just merely pointing out that the things mentioned prior in your first point were actually addressed and a few actions were taken, all be it not finished which is somewhat the key go to point here a lot. but I am far more confident with this team at hand than Mike, Hazgod or Borneo.

From what i gather the Tirnus caves is High end levelling, so the requirements for a low CL to thrive in Tirnus is a little odd, just like arch caves 2,3,4,5 you need to climb the levels to safely traverse the place.

Not saying the combat requirements are stupidly difficult, I am pretty sure CLs under 80 can enter the tirnus and do the quests as long as the health is ok, but that might want checking first.

askeladd i get your point but, i think that if they keep putting in stuff for high level players then the low level never have a chace to catch up. For example with the bosses when you fight Emma you get at least 1k experace in each skill for low level players that would take 1 to 7 days depending on the player and how new they are. I personaly dont really think that it is fair to put in very high level stuff when low level players cant get to it to get the high amount of experace making it impossible for them to get first place in anything.

New players will never catch the number 1's in the majority of the skillz_.

Look at aussie for example...He can gain over 5 million exp a week and has a 680 million lead on #2, who can earn the same exp lol

Combat...Bella could take 2 or 3 years off...and not even the current #2 could catch her in combat...gaining 1.5million exp a week.

The number 1 ranks are earned from long time play and effort...

Everyone started off as a new player and applied themselves to get to where they are now.

I look back at combat, how hard the struggle was back in the day...compared to now all the new players have got it easy, more options and stronger weapons at lower levels...

Heck you can even have a 18/18 TOOL!! The famous Bone or skeletal spade that you can equip at level 1 !!! which is better than an ogre mace that you NEED level 10 to equip !!

Or now you can even afk play your way in mining or woodcutting to level 120 and then get a TOOL ! that can deliver 62/60 stats...or 140 at 72/70 stats..that you can use in combat.

New players already have a huge advantage in comparison to back in the day play.

So im assuming you think its fair for high levels to have no choice but to continue to do low level stuff?

You do realise that the higher you get in a skill the MORE Exp you need to level yeah? I get the feeling that you want new players to participate in the high level stuff straight away...Like:

"hey! Thanks for joining Syrnia !! You have missed the last 15 years here, so heres 100 million exp to allocate how you desire to help you play the content, choose wisely and have fun!"

So you think it's fair to keep adding more high-level content so the current highscore leaders can immediately have even more of an advantage over other players? As soon as a better location comes out, they have a severely reduced timer from the higher levels and lower crowding, which means they're gaining even more exp/hr and higher chance at drops. I'd love to train combat more, but I don't think the stupidly high crowding is fair because people who are 60-80 levels higher than me just want to AFK for good drops and to use less hp. I have to watch the game and actively click to reduce the timer if I want any sort of decent exp.

I agree, I don't think they should only cater to the lower levels, but I also don't think they should only add new high-level content either. Your bias is showing. I'm an older player, I quit for several years. I've never had any desire to get to the top of the highscore, I just do whatever skill seems most fun at the time, I'd like to see more people join/return instead of just having the old players continue getting everything their way.

Everyone who plays these kinds of games knows you need more exp as they grow in levels, that's not a good point...nobody is asking for free exp. So because you've been here for a long time you feel like any new content has to benefit you alone?

i think that the higher level exp is unfair because i only have 8 mil exp total and some people can get that in a week or two weeks.
