TLDR; It is not about afk but the overall state of combat locations not just the few mentioned in this post but if you have anything to add that could help the locations be more viable post here.


So I am looking at growing my levels in combat but whilst talking to fighters I seem to get the same things whilst we discuss what I could do.

Ketil great but always too crowded,
Beset too crowded

Exella plains and Mountain suck

Ogre town and Sorer are not great since they got new creatures.

so I find if I want to afk I really only have 1 option at my level which is Ogre Outpost.


so the idea of this feedback is to hopefully address issues with some locations and see what can be done in order to bring them up to par or have them as an alternative to a similar location, as currently there are far too many locations being abandoned or updated wrongly?

Why did the drop changes not work?, why did the creature additions not work?

I believe any feedback is good feedback and as we are getting updates now, who knows we might start to be heard a bit more.


So post away what your views on the locations are and what you as a fighter would like to see or even as a player like to see.

I die too much, I think it's a bug with the afk and not eating.

Ketil will always be crowded due to the xp - that's the price you pay for 6k+ an hour xp

Beset - I suppose it is the Ogre Town for high levels

Exella Plain is okay - maybe too many 1 item drops

Mountain - yeah it sucks, but if you have high enough CL it would be okay for low crowding and good xp

Ogre Town - I thought it was okay after the additions if im honest

Sorer - I think sorer has been ruined, too many 1 seed drops and not enough meat with there being 2 types now.

I cannot help but agree with you Dark, from what ive heard asking to people ogre gains have worsened due to the addition of a high hp creature, which is not surprising. That is one thing, after that comes the afk matter. Making people unable to afk till a decent level creates the effect that you dont really know where to fight, and might make higher spots more crowded since if you are forced to pay attention, might as well go to a better spot.

Regarding drop changes I don't believe there is a huge issue, ogre is still a super profitable spot, between raws and seeds I gain hp and I'm sure most people that fight there do. TJ and Berian had drop updates that made them better and I personally love how Berian is now. Unfortunately though ogre, elven, and sorer have become somewhat garbage for different reasons. Elven was always second to ogre and even after the new creatures it's clearly not up to par on exp nor drops. The new creatures were supposedly meant to make afk combat less appealing but instead just made the entire location less appealing and now mid level fighters are left with 2 decent locations as allowed to the 5 they had before. I'll address the three locations individually.

Sorer has 2 creatures that utterly kill the exp to HP ratio and that along with the already poor drops in comparison to other locations has made sorer even less of a viable option for anyone that doesn't consistently hit in the 30s at sorer. Meaning it now takes Syriet axe or higher to be viable when before platina was more than enough.

Ogre Town has only the one poorly constructed mob and faces the same issue as sorer, the difference being that ogre town has always been higher than sorer yet the recent sorer update makes sorer harder to kill than ogre, that is a small plus. The biggest recent negative being that the Jotunghul was reduced from level 28 to 25 effectively making it a bonebreaker for exp yet having 10 more HP, a blatant anti-player change in order to have more players leave. The drops on the other hand are still very good for making money.

Elven, the red headed step child of ogre side, the drops are very bad considering the elven gear for the most part can't be sold to eully and the players that use elven is nearly nonexistent. Almost no financial gain to be had at the location and worse exp than ogre. Sorer is in almost all cases a better bet than elven unless elven gear gets a eully price.

Between Berian and TJ they're both good, in my experience TJ is more stable gold and better exp but Berian has a really high ceiling compared to TJ in terms of drops. Between the two is 100% preference.

Admin dislikes combat so learn to like crowding or choose a different skill

Can we maybe add another mob to choose from at Valera so once gnomes are too small to kill?

Bats will always be overcrowded being one of the best exp per hours at medium levels.

Beset will always be crowded until a new higher location comes out/ matches its drop potential.

excella plains and mountains drop rates are just terrible.

Ogre town was ruined with the addition of low tier raws, not the new monster.

No input on sorer since the addition of drops/monsters, but it was a great spot in the mid 50-70s grind.

Unpopular opinion: Beset drops need a NERF from a realistic scaling point. The drops there are far better compared to anything else, quantity/wealth wise.

Kaldra is perfectly fine.

Both spots are too crowded.

That's as much input as I can give, considering I don't have much to any experience with almost every tweaked location.

I agree with Felix in this regard, I do not think drop change will ultimately cause a surge in a positive way but more so hurt the reason it is crowded in the first place.

maybe instead look at making those around beset level more tempting as well. or new locations to gap fill?

Once there's a higher place to train combat in a stationary way, that rule no longer applies. I do agree with the highest place need best drops, but from a scaling standpoint it has to be designed gradually.

then if a new forest gets added we should nerf ammon? disagree with that also. I think the problem here is we are thinking that beset gives way too much wealth and is not the case compared to fishers for example that easily make millions afk without breakages

No, simply because Ammon is not that much better compared to Khaya, than Catacombs is to Kaldra/Mordor. The gap is much bigger in those combat spots in terms of drops, and therefore Ammon wouldn't need a fix, but Beset would.

I started training combat again recently, and figure I can weigh in constructively. Not one of the high level fighters either, so I was all over the place trying out the different spots for non-AFK fighting (I've not attempted AFK anywhere as of yet).

Can say that I used to like Sorer. XP wasn't terrible, and they could drop neat things. That new spider is overkill however, making it feel sketchy to fight there even non-AFK with other options available. Seeing that the XP wasn't ideal as it was, it doesn't feel viable to return there.

I wasn't as bothered by Ogre Town and Exella Plain's additions, but the elf mob hits disproportionately hard compared to the other mobs of the location. Makes it seem deceptively level-appropriate, only to get whacked beyond what you'd expect; generally more than once in the same fight, at that.

Presently at CL46 (with a pura hatchet), the last two places I bounced between were Berian and Ketil. Ketil's bats were fair and XP generous at that well-known cost of no worthwhile drops, and Berian was if Ketil was crowded and I did want a few drops. Berian's mobs are well balanced between one another, so I'm not one-hitting one and struggling with another, if that makes sense.

Ultimately, having more locations to spread out players and offer more options would be of help, varying mobs and their potential rewards. I had the most fun during Halloween, having so many mobs to choose from that I could pick the one most appropriate for my CL with less worry over XP-vs-drops, being nice at both. Some spots also seem stingy versus their difficulty, and I'd use Sorer as a good example of that (Infrequent drops/tough mobs/not the best XP).

what about fish then? i completely disagree that beset needs a nerf/scaling, and would also add that lowering drops does not warrant a decrease in crowding

There is no easy fix, as the problem is very complex. I don't have time for an in-depth answer, but I'll post what I have and probably edit it over the next few days.

I'll give my thoughts on combat skill in general, and not specifically AFK locations.

Factors that should be taken into account:
* Combat locations and drops were never well thought out, the skill was not well designed initially. New locations/creatures have been added over time, without much thought put into it.
* AFK fighting was not in the game by design. It was not something M2H wanted or expected.
* Wealth generated at Beset is huge, I agree, as I fight there. But is it that much better compared to other high level skills? Beset drops get sold to players, except maybe for diamonds. So Beset drops are a natural part of the game economy. Ogre drops getting dumped at Eully because there are not enough new players/demand - that is a different issue.
* Reduced player base. The distribution of active fighters is abnormal. I mean low vs mid vs high level.
* Any nerfing of drops at Beset or other locations would have a huge impact on fighters that aren't top level tet. Players who have fought at Beset for years would be at an insane advantage.
* if any changes are made, they should be based on in-game statistics (how many ogre medium helmets, shields, etc. get added to the game every month, active fighter distribution by CL, etc.) and not player feelings.

A possible solution:
* Remove/reduce npc prices for some items
* Some advertising to get new players into the game and have more demand for low level combat drops
* Change how timers/crowding affect combat. Crowding affects combat much more than other skills. Should it? High level gathering skills don't get a doubled timer because of crowding.

This is the only game I play, and I've recently come back after a break of ~2 years. I'm just happy the game is around, and hope it is around for years to come

yes sorer needs to get its drop rate back its become a very bad place with the low seeds and meat and hardly anything else i love fighting the spiders but its depressing anymore

dont nerf the drops or the xp; if anything that's going to make people stop fighting... try speeding up combat gains without changing drops.. for instance at cl 197 i should be able to gain the same amount of xp as any other skill, especially since i trained 4 of them to get that high. Increase the drops if you want decreases the price people sell them for. Hell, incorporate speed levels into it. At my cl it takes so long to gain a single level in any combat skill its beginning to get pointless.

You start nerfing things and you end up with things like the state of the current bosses or sorer lair... Un-used code just collecting dust

sorer lair use to be great for diaspores garnets and silks now they barely drop. er go, nobodys there really. You didnt have to add creatures to ogre and elven they were fine how they were. Also if you look back, those places were so crowded before the changes just like cata now... so change cata watch the fighters leave. eventually you will change all the spots enough to where nobody wants to fight, then nobody wants to eat, then nobody buys all the food... and it just keeps going until you have more un-used code collecting more dust.

The fact that there are multiple combat locations where no one ever fights due to either terrible xp or terrible drops, or even both, says that something needs to be fixed. Why have locations in the game that no one uses? Don't code an entire new island, repurpose the useless locations that we have maybe?
