Seeing as minor updates are happening I thought I'd throw this one into the mix.

A few months back we had a blind person join Syrnia using a text reader to play, they were enjoying themselves for the first hour or so, able to turn off images, figure out the ui and play the game. Then came the botcheck.
There was no way for them to figure out the numbers, so unfortunately they had to quit.

I don't know how many people this has put off the game in the past but I do know it's not easy to work it out sometimes even for me and I don't have any visual impairments, sometimes requiring clicking enter a few times to get the right combination.

Having a button to click for an audio botcheck would fix this.

I don't know how difficult this would actually be to implement but it would be a nice update all the same.

This is definitely a good idea and will increase accessibility to the game. Because not only does it help blind players, but also players who have sight issues but are not declared blind. Fully support.

It could also be a help for when the 3 & 8s and 1 & 7s look identical to each other even after a few tries.

This is a good idea. It's sad to see people have to leave because of impairments like that.

I'd love to see that but I think if it was to implement it I think a big overhaul should also be done in the background navigation flags of the game... That way hopefully a person who is vision impaired also could have logical navigation too that they can use

Though this would probably be a big project, it would be nice to see it being more disability friendly but it would require major and thorough design of the game's structure

Nuthouse, not really. How could there be? It would appear just as frequently as regular botchecks, with the added bonus of making the game more accessible to visually impaired players.

I like this because the bot-check is often hard to read and I have to just guess.

I was kinda pissed off when I stumbled upon a thread that a color blind person made saying that he needed this done or he would have to quit, and than seeing that he infact did quit. Please make it happen!

Any news/updates on this? Would be nice to see Syrnia fall in line with W3C accessibility standards.

It'd be easy as hell to implement. Any coder who says otherwise hasn't a clue.
All it'd take is 10 wav. (etc) audio files with 0 to 9, then pull the botcheck value from the server DB, select the singular audios corresponding to each number in the check and stitch them together into a single wav. file for the persons to hear (easily doable using PHP).

Oh, and add a fancy little button that says "Audio".

In response to LCA- No, it should NOT be a donation option...The game being accessible in this manner should never ever be something we pay for because there are I'm sure alot of people who have a hard time seeing, not just the 1 person we've seen ask about this/mention it and I would feel as if it were a donation option, that it would be extremely wrong

I am in love with the idea of custom audio botchecks, JR. I want my computer to scream at me.

There bad enough for non blind people, why can we not have clear numbers instead of being all jumbled up, it takes me a few go's to decipher the numbers

If the numbers were too easily visible then it would be easy to make a botcheck auto-fill programme, that is why screen readers for blind people won't work here.

I'd love to see this introduced, accessibility helps us all. I know my sight isn't what it used to be, I would hate to have to give up because of old age. Makes me wonder how many have.

I would 100% support this. It's a shame that players experience was cut short by a bot check. Normally I would throw in a Calgor-esque negative but... here , I just cannot think of any reason to do so.

If this adds to the inclusivity of the game for those with impaired vision, then i'm all for it.

Preff, the main negative would be cheaters. I would imagine software that could click the 'audio' button run your mic and easily translate the audio into text in the input to auto do botchecks would be easy for some in the community. Hard to implement this without giving cheaters a easy option for getting around botchecks lol

It's a sad day when inclusivity is sacrificed because it "may" aid cheats. Truth is a cheater is going to cheat no matter what. Hell there are STILL cheats in the game from back when m2h owned it, it's just a sad fact.

I still say if it helps those with less than perfect vision, I'm all for it

Audio can be obscured with pitch, reverb, stretched length, background noise, in the same way as an image like the current botchecks. I've seen it done several times before. The main issue is randomising these effects so they aren't predictable, but I'm sure the big brains on the dev team could do this.

The Dev team are aware this has become a hotly requested feature. We are investigating the plausibility of adding this whilst minimising the chances of it being abused.

agree with nuthouse there are too many people out there that try to (and succeed to cheat in game) too easy to get a way to be a cheater with this sorry I just don't see how visual impaired would have a successful run at this game if they cant read (than you have to make the manual read to you, and you need (chat) eventually read to you if your talking to someone, I personally think its eats at the game.

But I'm not visually impaired, I don't know the struggles. But if this is a vote (which I know its not) I vote no
