Frequently asked questions and tips for enjoying Syrnia's various holidays!
Q: When do they start?!
A: In general, the rule for Syrnian holidays is that they start at 00:00 Syrnia time the day before the holiday. For specific start dates please check each individual holiday in the guide.
Q: When do they end?!
A: Syrnian holidays continue through the day following the holiday and usually end at 00:00 Syrnia time two days after the holiday. For specific end dates please check each individual holiday in the guide.
Q: What can I do during the holiday?!
A: Syrnian holidays offer a wide variety of activities for everyone to enjoy. The activities can include chasing a special non playable character (NPC) for special items, fighting off special invasions, doing special woodcutting/fishing/mining events, combo chests, and the opening of party island. For those who do not like to participate in the special activities, most work locations (if unaffected by invasions or events) will offer a great chance to work with little to no crowding.
Q: What can I do to prepare for the holiday?!
A: There are several things a player needs in order to participate in and fully enjoy Syrnia's holidays:
--->First thing a player will want is a good speed suit/horse/boat for chasing the NPC. A better speed suit/horse/boat will allow you to get from island to island and town to town faster so you can get more theft attempts in on the NPC. Also, certain holidays have special items and/or flowers that can only be found while walking around during the holiday.
--->The second thing a player will want is a good stock of cooked/grown HP. Invasions are a huge part of the holidays and a player will want to make sure to have plenty of food ready to fight off the hordes of creatures that will undoubtedly arrive. It will be possible to buy food during the holiday, but due to increased demand, sellers may try to increase the price and a player may end up paying more than normal. Please note that invasions may block access to a player's house so make sure to gather all you think you will need before they begin! This may also mean that you won't be able to harvest your farm crops so plan accordingly during the holidays!
--->The third thing a player will want is a good combat level (CL). This goes along with number two. Since invasions are a large part of the holiday fun, the higher a players CL is the more monsters they can fight throughout the holiday. Also, the higher a player's CL the less likely they will be to die to a creature. If there is one thing that can ruin a holiday mood, it is dying. Please be very careful when fighting and make sure to know the max hit of creatures before engaging them in battle. I will try to keep an up to date list of max hits in this guide but if one is not listed it can normally be found by asking in Help Chat channel (5).
--->The fourth thing a player will want is a set of every tool they can use for every skill. Being able to work at nearby locations in-between chasing the NPC or fighting off invasions is a great way to pass time playing away from keyboard (AFK) while you tend to those awful real life events such as eating, sleeping, taking a phone call etc.
--->The fifth thing is probably not as important but can greatly increase the enjoyment of the holidays for some, gold pieces (GP). Certain holidays will have special animals for riding for sale for 5000 gp. Also, gp can be spent bailing players out of prison at a reduced cost (20% off) if they were trying to thieve while chasing the NPC. Bailers do not often receive items or gp in return for their services, but they do earn the love and appreciation of the community, and after all, is that not what Syrnia holidays are all about, giving back to the community and killing creatures!
--->Lastly, it is important to know when the holiday starts so that all tools, food, armor, and anything else the player wants can be gotten out of their house or clan stockhouse (SH) beforehand. It is important to make sure a player has everything they need on them before the holiday begins or it may be stuck in the player's house or SH due to an invasion at that town until the holiday is over. The only town in game that is guaranteed not to have an invasion is Skulls Nose due to the pirate SH being there. So if a player is a pirate, they can safely store items in a giant house or clan SH at Skulls nose.

6. Activities
---> Chasing the NPC
The NPC will randomly move from island to island at :01, :16, :31, and :46 throughout the duration of the holiday. The following islands are all fair game for the NPC to travel: Remer, Dearn, Mezno, Webbers, Serpenthelm, Exrollia, Skull island, Ogre cave, Elven island, Kanzo, and Anasco. The island will be announced in red chat at the given time, but it is up to the players to discover the specific location on the island which the NPC traveled to. Its name will appear at the top of the list of players at the location.
Thieving is the main objective when you chase the NPC. Once located, click the NPC's name, then click "Thief" under the stats like you would thieve any other player. Your thieving level does NOT have any effect on thieving success rate. Everybody has the same chance of success regardless of their thieving level. You have a chance of stealing items from the NPC (see the specific holiday to see which items you can get), but if you fail you will end up in jail in the jailtown of the specific island for 120 seconds. A great part of the holidays is that there are many generous players who choose to spend their time and gp bailing other players who chase the NPC! Bailers get a 20% reduced bail fee during the holidays. They don't receive anything special for their efforts except the gratitude of other players, so if you do get bailed, be sure to thank a bailer this holiday!
So you've sailed to the right island, found the right town, and you've thieved the NPC...now what? How do you "win"? In order to be eligible for one of the effort prizes for thieving the NPC, you must do 2 things:
1. Thieve the NPC. It does NOT matter whether you are successful or not in your attempt, you just need to thieve at least once!
2. Be in the same town as the NPC when the time changes over and the NPC leaves. In other words, be at the same spot as the NPC when the red chat appears. Working a skill at the location or being locked in jail (if the NPC is at the jail location) does NOT inhibit your chance of getting a prize
That's it! It's random, so everyone at that location who has thieved the NPC has the same chance of getting a prize, so good luck and happy chasing!
---> Invasions
Invasions during the holidays usually include many special creatures that you can only fight during these special events, so be sure to check the specific holiday to see which monsters may be available and what goodies they drop! Invasions are combat-based so make sure to check and double check their combat level before clicking 'fight'! There isn't much that can ruin a Syrnian holiday more than dying to a monster, losing all your hard-earned stuff, and not being able to access your house to get any more! Also make sure to have plenty of food on you and armour/weapons in case one breaks!
Although new invasions won't be sent after the holiday is over, leftover monsters will remain past the holiday end time until they are all killed.
---> Mining/woodcutting/fishing event
Occasionally non-combat events are also sent, and even better...they usually give boosted experience! These are great for those who may not have a high combat level or for those who are trying to focus on their one skill, even during the holidays. These events may be available for any levels to participate or they may only allow specific levels, so it's beneficial to carry some tools for all skills on you during the holidays.
---> Combo chest
A combo chest can appear with a combination to guess anywhere from 1 up to 100,000! A player can guess a number every 20 seconds. A failed guess gives 4xp. There can only be 1 successful guess, and it will usually result in a very nice prize during the holidays!
---> Contests
A contest involves a random item and a desired trait of that item. You enter your item and get a rating for the trait. For example, there could be a contest for the most jagged rock. You enter a rock and it gets a 74.6 jaggedness rating. The rating is random, but generally ranges from a number between 0.01 and 100.00. For every specified item you have in your inventory, you can submit one entry into the contest. The more items you enter, the better chance you'll have for submitting the best entry. The players with the best three entries are the winners and receive a prize!
---> Walking
Holidays may include special items that can only be found by walking. Usually these items will be a special flower specific to the holiday, but may also include others, such as eggs, rabbit fur, or a new item! In some cases, such as with Easter eggs, items can only be found on the island the NPC meant for chasing is currently on. Remember to make sure you remove your horse if you want to find these items!
7. Party Island
A new island? What?! How do I get there?!? A special island called Celebration island (but more commonly called Party island by most Syrnians) often opens during holidays! This island can be accessed by sailing from Port Senyn, Burning Beach, Crabs nest, or Eylsian docks to Port Party. You will sail back to the original port you sailed from when you leave Party island, so if you sailed from Crabs nest, you will return to Crabs nest and will not have the choice to return to a different port.
The events on Party island differ for each holiday, but will usually include a special activity at the Syrnia celebration center, such as picking up your present from Santa, building a full skeleton, making Christmas stockings, or other exciting activities. Other locations on the island include Festival forest where you can chop wood and get other goodies and Holiday lake where you can go fishing for special striped fish.

6. Activities
---> Chasing the NPC
The NPC will randomly move from island to island at :01, :16, :31, and :46 throughout the duration of the holiday. The following islands are all fair game for the NPC to travel: Remer, Dearn, Mezno, Webbers, Serpenthelm, Exrollia, Skull island, Ogre cave, Elven island, Kanzo, and Anasco. The island will be announced in red chat at the given time, but it is up to the players to discover the specific location on the island which the NPC traveled to. Its name will appear at the top of the list of players at the location.
Thieving is the main objective when you chase the NPC. Once located, click the NPC's name, then click "Thief" under the stats like you would thieve any other player. Your thieving level does NOT have any effect on thieving success rate. Everybody has the same chance of success regardless of their thieving level. You have a chance of stealing items from the NPC (see the specific holiday to see which items you can get), but if you fail you will end up in jail in the jailtown of the specific island for 120 seconds. A great part of the holidays is that there are many generous players who choose to spend their time and gp bailing other players who chase the NPC! Bailers get a 20% reduced bail fee during the holidays. They don't receive anything special for their efforts except the gratitude of other players, so if you do get bailed, be sure to thank a bailer this holiday!
So you've sailed to the right island, found the right town, and you've thieved the NPC...now what? How do you "win"? In order to be eligible for one of the effort prizes for thieving the NPC, you must do 2 things:
1. Thieve the NPC. It does NOT matter whether you are successful or not in your attempt, you just need to thieve at least once!
2. Be in the same town as the NPC when the time changes over and the NPC leaves. In other words, be at the same spot as the NPC when the red chat appears. Working a skill at the location or being locked in jail (if the NPC is at the jail location) does NOT inhibit your chance of getting a prize
That's it! It's random, so everyone at that location who has thieved the NPC has the same chance of getting a prize, so good luck and happy chasing!
---> Invasions
Invasions during the holidays usually include many special creatures that you can only fight during these special events, so be sure to check the specific holiday to see which monsters may be available and what goodies they drop! Invasions are combat-based so make sure to check and double check their combat level before clicking 'fight'! There isn't much that can ruin a Syrnian holiday more than dying to a monster, losing all your hard-earned stuff, and not being able to access your house to get any more! Also make sure to have plenty of food on you and armour/weapons in case one breaks!
Although new invasions won't be sent after the holiday is over, leftover monsters will remain past the holiday end time until they are all killed.
---> Mining/woodcutting/fishing event
Occasionally non-combat events are also sent, and even better...they usually give boosted experience! These are great for those who may not have a high combat level or for those who are trying to focus on their one skill, even during the holidays. These events may be available for any levels to participate or they may only allow specific levels, so it's beneficial to carry some tools for all skills on you during the holidays.
---> Combo chest
A combo chest can appear with a combination to guess anywhere from 1 up to 100,000! A player can guess a number every 20 seconds. A failed guess gives 4xp. There can only be 1 successful guess, and it will usually result in a very nice prize during the holidays!
---> Contests
A contest involves a random item and a desired trait of that item. You enter your item and get a rating for the trait. For example, there could be a contest for the most jagged rock. You enter a rock and it gets a 74.6 jaggedness rating. The rating is random, but generally ranges from a number between 0.01 and 100.00. For every specified item you have in your inventory, you can submit one entry into the contest. The more items you enter, the better chance you'll have for submitting the best entry. The players with the best three entries are the winners and receive a prize!
---> Walking
Holidays may include special items that can only be found by walking. Usually these items will be a special flower specific to the holiday, but may also include others, such as eggs, rabbit fur, or a new item! In some cases, such as with Easter eggs, items can only be found on the island the NPC meant for chasing is currently on. Remember to make sure you remove your horse if you want to find these items!
7. Party Island
A new island? What?! How do I get there?!? A special island called Celebration island (but more commonly called Party island by most Syrnians) often opens during holidays! This island can be accessed by sailing from Port Senyn, Burning Beach, Crabs nest, or Eylsian docks to Port Party. You will sail back to the original port you sailed from when you leave Party island, so if you sailed from Crabs nest, you will return to Crabs nest and will not have the choice to return to a different port.
The events on Party island differ for each holiday, but will usually include a special activity at the Syrnia celebration center, such as picking up your present from Santa, building a full skeleton, making Christmas stockings, or other exciting activities. Other locations on the island include Festival forest where you can chop wood and get other goodies and Holiday lake where you can go fishing for special striped fish.
