Hey

This thread has been created to provide players with a reference as to which Monster Combat Areas or individual Monsters they could fight based on their own Combat Levels and Maximum Health Points.

In addition to providing players with recommended Combat Levels and recommended Health Points, we hope it will help to reduce the amount of the most common combat related questions which appear the Game Help Channel [5] each day.

All Combat Level recommendations for each Monster or Combat Area are provided to give average Experience gains and average Food usage while training. If you train with higher Combat Levels you should see higher Experience gains and lower food consumption. It is possible to fight each Monster or fight at each Combat Area with a lower Combat Level, but you should expect to use more food.

All the Health Point recommendations are intended to help the player avoid being killed in 1 Hit by the Monster, Auto Attack Monster or highest level Monster at each Combat Area when the player has Full Health.

Please be aware that the info given in this guide is meant to be used as a reference only, and while we have tried to keep the details as reasonably accurate as possible, we cannot be responsible for any deaths.

You should prepare yourself for Combat with sufficient food and spare Armour, storing all your resources and valuables in your houses in case of death. Please note that if you die, your items fall to the ground for others to pick up

If you see any info which you feel is inaccurate, please forward a ticket to the Forum Department.

Combat Areas

This first section gives the recommended Combat Levels (CL), Health Points (HP), the Monster names/Auto Attack names and Monster Level for each of the Monster Combat areas.

The order in which Combat Areas have been listed are the recommended stages that you could choose to fight as you progress in Combat. Some areas have been divided, Skulls Nose and Ketil for example, as the different Combat links require different Combat Levels and Health Points.

The link to take you to commence Combat is shown as it appears in the Town/location screen in italics and you should take care that you wish to fight before you click it!

There are also Dinosaurs you can choose to fight at certain times in random locations.
Each "Round" has a 30 second Combat Timer.
These Monsters are also group fights, meaning other players can attack the same Monster. While in a group fight the Monster will attack one player at random, which can help you use less food, as you avoid taking damage while another player is hit by the Monster. You will still get to attack the Dinosaur, but you'll take no damage if it hits another player. If you are fighting alone then you will take every return hit as normal.

Having a high amount of Health Points is very important against Dinosaurs.

Individual Monsters

This section gives a recommended Combat Level (CL), recommended Health Points (HP), the Monsters name and Monsters Level during Quests and Invasions.

The Combat Level recommendations are listed as a priority for invasions due to prolonged and multiple fights.

The Quests monsters are also listed with a recommended Combat Level incase you can fight them in an invasion, and may include a lower Combat Level recommendation to fight them in limited numbers during the quest itself.

Bear in mind that while fighting individual Monsters the average damage may be higher, and therefore the Food used will most likely be higher than the random Monsters at each of the Combat Areas.

The recommended individual Combat Levels may differ from the recommendations in the Combat Areas section.

The following 7 monsters can be attacked on your own during an invasion, the 4 Dinosaurs on your own or as a part of a "group fight" when fighting them in Arch Cave 4, the Deep Sea Monster, Captain Keelhail and the Skeleton King on your own or as part of a "group fight" during an invasion.

Captain Keehail has been known to hit as high as 90 damage, however if your health points reach 0hp you will not die or lose your items, you will instead be captured and taken to Crab Nest on Skull Island to become a pirate.

These monsters can also deal large amounts of damage with each hit, even when you're at higher Combat Levels, so are listed with reasonable minimum Combat level recommendations. Be prepared to use a lot of food.

Your recommended levels are way too low.

I can see this getting quite a few people killed mate, no offence.

Nice effort though, just need more information and a tweak to the recommended levels.

not too low. I fought most of these critters at lower levels than what is posted.

I agree with the recommendations. I fought alot of monsters close to the recommendations that are stated. good post.

Great job orange one.Are you the color or the fruit
Sam [{S_C}]
Grapefruit..if you got hit by 15, even by a bear, it would lead us to suspect that places such as Ogre Outpost and Sorer Lair would hit for 17+.

Be warned. A 17+ hit would nearly kill me.
Ihit Youdie []o.O[]
Grape i can say that you getting hit for 15 in deep lemo, is a huge lie.
The most ive ever heard is 12.. saying that before that was 11.. only ever heard report of 12 myself.. from what ive seen in previous 'max hit' posts was 11.

We will all die with a rumour of a 17 hp hit.

On that note, you could go a little lower hp values for a lot of them; but what I really think is better is the recommended health so that even if you lag/turn away you will still be safe.
Tess [Pond]
I think the recommended hp that was posted was a bit over the "max hit" most people claim, kind of as a buffer just in case.

Either way it's a great guide. You don't have to follow it like it is law but it is a good suggestion.

"not too low. I fought most of these critters at lower levels than what is posted."

Point is most of these recommended CLs to fight here are only safe for one hit.

Could easily lure people into a false sense of security when in fact if they look away for 30 seconds they could die.

Excellent guide, Orange, really well done, hope this is stickied.
teohweichin [-TaG-]
Slight problem.. the your hp needs to be higher.. recommended hp is good, except that monsters can hit quite high, maybe not above the hp, but fighters will have to keep an eye on their hp, and ensure they have a constant supply of food...

This is just my opinion though..
H2O [UBER]
Very nice guide. Something that would be neat though is the recommended level that you can AFK fight these monsters. Just a thought though.

Overall, great job Orange. I really do hope this gets stickied, definitely deserves to be IMO.

good effort Orange. I tend to agree with Ibiss on some of the level suggestions however.

Also why does wara and honu have the same recommended HP when the one hits less? as you seem to be basing hp needed just on one hit values roughly.
Chase Miracleborn [Zen]
I believe the guide should be more like this for example:

Lemo Woods (Dearn Island)

Enter the woods

Recommended Survival stats:
CL10 - 6HP

Recommended Training stats:
CL 13 - 10HP

Recommended Safe stats:

CL 25 - 20-25HP

Random fight order

Giant Spiders (2)
Fox (3)
Cobra (4)
Gnomes (4)
Bats (6)

The recommendations are off the top of my head and are not real. Just an example.

Survival meaning if you fight there you will not die within 1 attack.(this would help players that are entering auto attack areas and such but not necessarily someone who wants to fight there all the time)
Training meaning you will be able to survive at least 2-3 attacks(max hits) without dying. (this helps for players that want to train here daily or very often)
Safe meaning you will be able to fight there botcheck to botcheck with little worry of death. (this of course helps with players that want to afk botcheck to botcheck or very close. I realize this one is definitely one to think about a you wouldn't want to give false information for afk fighting. Could result in death.)

Can change the words to anything. Red, yellow, green. "Can you survive here?" "Can you fight here?" "Can you fight botcheck to botcheck here?" Whatever works. I believe there should definitely be more recommendations than simply can you survive the maximum hit at a location. Good effort in this post, I think it just needs some tweaking. Well, there is my opinion

great guide but i started fighting gnomes at CL3 and was fine
Sam [{S_C}]
some of it didn't make too much sense particularly the white bat one

on the detailed list it shows it CL 45
on the arch caves (having white bat and stronger) it shows CL 40
finally on the bottom one it shows CL 40
Orange []
sam, the white bat appears in different areas, so the combat levels are represented slightly differently to reflect that

the white bats at arch cave south could be considered most "dangerous" as you fight only those, and there is rarely more that a couple of players (if that) fighting them so the fights would appear quicker with the uncrowded timer. hence a higher level is noted

fighting those same bats as an invasion would most likely be fully crowded (25 seconds per hit), if not quite crowded, in most areas around syrnia so a slightly lower level is manageable

finally, the white bats you are able to fight in arch cave 2 appear randomly with other level monsters, which you could consider the least "dangerous" of the bunch as you wont always fight them, so a similar level to fighting them in a crowded invasion is listed

hope that clears up any confusion

Can you give me actual recommendations on stat levels in order to kill them? Break down the CL 85 into attack/strength/defense I mean. Seems like other Guides have no idea and just answer CL 85 when you ask them what skills are recommended to go into that CL 85. (Yes, just like cod heals the same number of hp as cod and smelting iron ore needs the smithing level to smelt iron ore. I always thought repeating the question you were just asked was a stalling tactic, to be honest.)

Although, MM recommended level 7 to kill one with level 1 attack, level 1 defense, level 1 strength and 40 HP. Which makes for a 78 combat level discrepancy. So which Guide do we listen to?

I technically said that as long as you have the HP to survive, the general "recommendation" for your CL can fluctuate. To which you came up with HP level 435 or so, and I said yes technically so long as you have the what? HP to survive.

425 = 85*5. It's CL 85 or so. And you said it'd fair well, but then before that you said that the 40 HP is in fact enough. So, that condenses down to level 7 CL.

the specific stats are up to you

this thread is simply an overall combat level recommendation along with recommended health points to comfortably survive the monsters estimated max hit, when you have full health before each hit

it would be possible (but very impractical for the amount of food it would need) to kill any monster with 1 attack, 1 strength, 1 defence plus enough health levels to give you the recommended health points found in this thread

if youre looking for more information about recommended attack, strength and defence levels, it would be better to create your own thread asking for player opinions about which combination of stats are most effective for combat, then you can make your own decisions based on your own experience and players opinions

a specific weapon or armour type isnt required to kill any monster, just as any specific combat level isnt required to kill any monster

the recommended combat levels can be used as a reference to your own combat level, if your combat level is above or below these numbers it doesnt matter, its simply a reference for players to use

"a specific weapon or armour type isnt required to kill any monster, just as any specific combat level isnt required to kill any monster"

I realize... However, you recommended CL 85, not me. Is that CL 85 with an obby axe and low defense? Or a CL 85 with a platina axe and somewhat equal stats? Or a CL 85 that takes advantage of a high level woodcutting pickaxe or hatchet so has no attack level? If you were doing the quest, what stats would you do it at?

You're the one who created the number 85... I am asking from where? And what exactly do you recommend? Why is it so hard to get a straight answer out of a Guide?

the combat levels shown are from my own experience with combat as well as a reasonable estimation of what would give average exp gains as well as an average food usage

you can choose to use these as a reference, or you can choose to ignore them

the reason you havent been given a straight answer is because this thread was never meant to be a definitive guide as to which weapons, armour types or specific stats a player is "required" to have to defeat each monster or to train in each area

if youre really this interested in finding these types of answers you can always try fighting the monsters yourself and decide which weapons, armours and level stats would be best suited to your own opinions

Again, I am not asking for what's required... Can you give me a recommendation? CL 85 isn't a recommendation because it doesn't recommend anything and recommends everything at the same time. Did you do the quest? What weapon/armor did you use? Did you feel that was effective?

recommendations are listed in the original post

ive killed all monsters and completed all quests. the result of this combat experience das led to the recommendations in this thread. the specfic types of armour arent listed because each of the recommendations arent specifically dependant on weapons, armour or stats, they are simply recommendations of overall experience and estimations for average exp gains and HP usage

my personal use of weapons, armour and stats have no direct bearing on the recommendations given because ive tested different weapons, armour and stats for each monster, with an estimation for combat related quest monsters based on knowledge gained from fighting similar level monsters

again, and for the final time as this is going in circles, you can either choose to use these recommendations or choose not to

The choices that you make to train, are purely your choices. If you wish to not train attack, defense, or strength, and merely train health...it would take you a very very long time to get that kind of stat. Any creature you fought would be a long fight. As such, a complete waste of time, and resources.

So, again...CL 85 at least, with HP of 40 at least. I did it with a CL of 90+, with over 80 HP. I used a Platina axe, and wore full gold armor. Those were choices that I made. You can do as you wish, as you have free will in this game.

"I'll only have level 84 CL then Hazgod, Orange would disagree with you! "
No he would not. This whole question in my eyes has not been about you completing the quest but about you trying to score points against guides. Most likely because you are still mad about getting muted over that pickaxe as a weapon thing. Simple recommendation, get over it.

They are helpful, you are just being your usual nitpicking self. Is easy for anyone else to see that any CL85 setup that has above 40 hp, will be able to kill it. As most do not do what you try to point out, all health, all defence. Anyone who does combat knows that, even you. Again just trying to nitpick.
Going on and on about stats, the stat that is most important. Having 40 hp so you do not die.

With enough food.

Is a recommendation not that you HAVE to have CL85 in order to complete it.
What is it about the word recommendation you are having trouble with?

Viperslfc: "This whole question in my eyes has not been about you completing the quest but about you trying to score points against guides. Most likely because you are still mad about getting muted over that pickaxe as a weapon thing."

This has nothing to do with that pickaxe mute. I didn't report MM in chat for just repeating my question back to me 3 times, cause giving 0 information to players isn't exactly giving incorrect information to players, so that rule wouldn't apply.

And as it has been pointed out, someone could just have level 1 attack/strength/defense and level 420 health to get level 85 combat, and while they will survive the max hits, it would take them hours, if not days or weeks, depending on their woodcutting/mining/smithing levels, to kill it. I was simply asking for a level 85 combat setup that people HAVE used to kill the monster in a reasonable amount of time with a reasonable amount of food use. Orange got the number 85 from somewhere, I was just asking from where. Everyone knows that CL = att/3 + def/3 + str/3 + health/5, and he gave us CL and health, which still leaves thousands of possibilities for attack, defense, and strength levels. I was asking for people's recommendation on those.

And the fact that it took so long to get a recommendation is appalling, especially since 3 guides were involved. Although at least 2 of those guides dislike me, so I guess I should have just asked someone else to ask the question for me, just like I've started getting others to report rulebreaking to the mods for me. Yay for biased staff members.

Thanks again, Hazgod.

Yea, I'm forced to agree with esnow--CL 85 doesn't mean anything. What's so hard about just answering the bloody question with "You need Attack # and at least HP #," which would have sufficiently answered esnow's question, without needing to go on for a page about it?
VipersLFC [Snake]
Esnow was so into arguing mode she actually ignored an answer given to her by a guide to her own question.

From Prome
" I did it with a CL of 90+, with over 80 HP. I used a Platina axe, and wore full gold armor. Those were choices that I made. You can do as you wish, as you have free will in this game."

And as I said which you ignored. Your case of having only 420 health, is what you always do try use extremes to validate your silly points. No one is going to do that , most players train combat to be balanced except attack.

Simple nitpicking. Nothing to do with this. Have fun. Will not bother replying again.

And Sirtheta, if you watch forums. Had someone just said how much attack and hp needed. She then would have nitpicked over defence and strength levels. Some players just like to argue.

Soon as an answer came from a none guide she was happy with it. Again this is an issue more between her and guides which her last reply proves.

I'm surprised a player that has been around as long as you Esnow needs detailed instructions how to fight a creature. tiff : "I've been impressed with how the guides help without being overbearing and telling people what they "must" do or the "one right way""

Actually, in some cases, you're not allowed to give new players alternatives to choose from, under punishment of a mute. For example, the Guides never tell people that you can get venomous fangs from Berian and Thick Jungle as well. The "one right way" to do that quest is to get one from Lemo or buy one. And don't get me started on the syriet pickaxe, as in fact, it was a Guide whose report got me muted for saying someone can use it as a weapon. Nope, the Guides like the plain and simple bronze longsword at level 1 attack, "the one right way".

As far as training the combat skill itself goes, I fought gnomes till I got the level for a koban axe and lestro told me to go fight at Sorer. Then when I got the gold axe, he transported my stuff for my across the OL and set me up to fight Ogres. And that's where I've been fighting since then. The time I disobeyed him and fought at Berian, I died :o So yeah... That's why I was asking for a recommendation here, cause lestro quit, and I thought the Guides would be just as helpful, but I guess not in all cases.

The only thing I'm not sure about is your gap of 5 CLs between Berian and Ogre Town. I'm at CL27, so I use both, and find them almost equally challenging.

They have similar monster levels and very similar max hits, the only real threat i felt at those same levels was the higher fight frequency at Berian due to a lower crowding than the "usual" max crowding at Ogre Town.

Either combat area could be a little more challenging if the crowding dips and makes the fight timer much lower, but i felt they were a similar challenge with regards to average damage dealt each hour, so i tried to reflect that in the recommended minimum health

VipersLFC [Snake]
Seeing as Orange quit this is just a guess going on what he said above about crowding being difference between Ogre Town and Berian.

Walking around arch 2, though you encounter bats. Is not fighting bats all the time. With Arch S being an actual fighting spot, that might be why the difference.

I see five levels difference, the difference he put between OT and Berian because of crowding. Is only a guess but might be why.

Jack the Reaper - "How does arch 2 have a lower recommendation than arch S?"

Vipers is correct, while the Koban miner (34) is 2 levels higher than the White bat (32) its the threat of continuous damage and fast hits from the generally uncrowded fighting area of Arch cave S poses a higher risk of death, as opposed to the 1 in 6 chance of fighting the Koban miner in Arch cave 2.

Jack the Reaper - "Also wouldnt you need higher hp on the area that has higher leveles creatures"

I chose 25hp for both areas as this should be enough to avoid being killed in one hit while fighting a White bat or Koban miner, regardless of their level.

Hazgod - "From what I have seen, the Kobans in arch hit harder than the white bats. I don't know why ACS would be higher by 5 CL than AC2. Maybe next time Orange shows up he could clarify for you"

This has a similar explaination to the first answer, while the Koban miners look to hit very slightly harder than the White bats according to my notes, having higher combat stats will benefit you more while fighting a single monster over and over, against the danger of fighting a similar levelled monster which has a 1 in 6 chance of appearing in your fights.

Also please bear in mind, this thread was only meant to be used as a reference for the different monsters and combat areas, it was never intended to be an ultimate guide.

Higher CL doesnt always mean higher str, it can sometimes be because of their high health level.
I have a question.

93 is a known hit from the skeleton king from last year, Jack.

Was that the skeleton king, a frost giant or captain keelhail?
Otherwise Orange hasn't updated this in AGES "As of writing (29-10-2011), the highest hit seen so far is 77 damage, but its very possible it can hit even higher than this."

2/102 The Skeleton king struck at Deedar and did 99 damage.

kkman []
from TL grounds:
`Your defense level works to reduce the chances you take damage. The higher your defence level, combined with the armor that you wear works to reduce the chances monsters hit for their maximum, and in the same breath, reduce overall damage taken.`
so what is the max hit you are talkin about? was it on a nacked CL1 player?
SYRAID
[Pond]
25-12-2009 13:15

Well you clever Syrnians, I thought that would keep you busy all day but within 2 hours is fantastic going!

Congratulations to kkman who wins the Competition
Bahamanut [~X~]
"Your defense level works to reduce the chances you take damage."

That doesn't mean the max hit of XYZ mob is reduced, but rather lowers the likely hood of XYZ mob hitting its max hit.
In other words whether your combat level is 1 or 100 the max hit of a particular mob will still be the same, just that the likely hood of a max hit occurring will be lowered as you level up.

C4LV1N [SWC]
From Orange's post:

"All the Health Point recommendations are intended to help the player avoid being killed in 1 Hit by the Monster, Auto Attack Monster or highest level Monster at each Combat Area when the player has Full Health."

If the Sekhmet can hit 40, then that sentence should be changed if the recommended HP for fighting Sekhmet isn't changed, since it doesn't suggest that the recommended HP also depends on CL. Unless there is a good argument to believe And is making up being hit for 40--I can't make that argument.

this was a poor guide from the time it was written.. use it with a pinch of salt and not as combat training guide imo.

[Skulls Nose (Skull island)

Combat link appears as Recruit pirates

While this option isn't an actual Combat Area, as long as there are resources in the Pirate Stockpile you can Recruit Pirates to gain 5 Combat Exp in all 4 of your Combat Skills, but there are Combat Level requirements to train the different pirates]

This part of the guide is wrong/outdated.
* Recruiting Pirates only yields 1 Combat Exp in all 4 of Combat Skills--not 5 each like the guide claims.
The Puppeteer [HD]
Sameal there are 4 skills, this guide says *5 exp in all of the 4 combat skills* but i must say that is incorrect the combat exp earned are:

Pirate: 1 experience point in each combat skill.

Dread Pirate: 3 experience point in each combat skill.

the rest, well ask a vetren pirate

You got 1500 defence experience.
