Nice, informative and it should be stickied I think, maybe fewer posts stating ' I died' if people were to actually read this.

Novus, your comments are not helpful here what about saying nice job or something?
I have noticed you post some derisive remarks on Roens posts before if you have a problem with this player don't read or post on his threads.

His posts don't bother me and i'm not worrying about them, unless he continually does it and just spams... If i'm not worried about the posts directed at me, i don't think there's much reason for others to worry about it either, just ignore him if he's got nothing useful to say.

If anyone's interested in keeping this updated, i could use some help reading through since we've had the updates now. If you want credit for helping me at all, you'll have to speak up or i probably won't mention names.

"
  • EDIT III: With the new updates, i had to correct the equipment section. I'm not sure of the stats for everything though, so it's probably not 100% accurate. If you see something you think needs changed, or know it needs changed, please post or message me and i'll try to take care of it. If you want credit for that, let me know as well.

Um, this is simply a beginner's guide, which i wrote on my own with some help from a few players in making corrections. If you see something wrong, then i welcome you to point it out so it can be fixed. Of course, judging from the content of your post, i'd simply say you're looking for someone to flame.

Um, no. I already said i could use some help (multiple times). I put some effort into it and tried to give some details for players just beginning fighting. If you got a problem with this thread or think something's wrong, speak up about what's actually wrong rather than insulting, or you could easily ticket the forum mod and try to convince them to delete it. Now, i'd appreciate it if you'd quit flaming me, and if not, i'll follow a piece of advice i gave you. ;)

its alot to read, and I'm a lazy person. So I just scimmed it, and it seems really good. It pretty much does cover the basics of combat, as well as a few extras. Nice work roen

As for evert, it doesn't matter what CL you have to write a good combat guide. Heck, if you died around 5 times, or have around 20 CL, you could write a guide. It could be what to do or what not to do, or something that pretty much covers combat.

In the second paragraph in the section, "Eating and Lag," you have, "So only fight when you know there is lag, if you are 100% certain you will win the fight without eating, or can go multiple rounds without consuming food." Shouldn't it be, "... when you know there is NO lag, ....?"

"So only fight when you know there is lag, if you are 100% certain you will win the fight without eating, or can go multiple rounds without consuming food."

Probably worded poorly, but i think that's what i wanted.
What i was trying to say, is if you know there's lag and you still want to fight, then you should be fighting in an area where you don't have to worry about eating very often.
Does that make any more sense? If so, i'll edit that section to make it clearer.

recently there were a couple of players who complained that they died while they had gotten to a botcheck. i scanned over most of the text and saw the part where you can pause a fight by logging out. this is more of a question than a comment towards editing your info, but personally id be to scared to test this myself incase something wrong. is the reason to log out, to force a botcheck? and in turn pause the fight as our fights are supposed to halt when we reach a botcheck

I'm not sure of how it works really, i just know i've used it before. I can log out of a night, and when i log in during the morning, i'll be in the middle of my fight with 10 seconds on the timer.

from what i understood, there may be 1 more hit that occurs somewhere before or after the botcheck, and if enough damage was dealt, it could kill and appear as though the pause from the botcheck hadnt worked

Alright then, i didn't pay close attention to the turns myself, so i'll remove the section i have about that, just to be safe, thanks.

It says that the max hit formula is (Strength + Power) / 3 = Max Hit , but I've been told multiple times that it's actually [(Strength + Power) / 3] + 1 = Max Hit

What do you all think of this advice for Combat Beginners: (based on a discussion between Burnt Cod and Myself)

Stick with Rats! And do something to earn GP as you go as you will need 12K give or take:

the goal is to maximize your hits and armor and HP by the time you hit CL 10:

so we think focusing on Health is best as special weapons(Valera sword) and Armor (ogre) with a St 4 will give you good hits against Rats.

I have not worked out an order but in the end:

Attack: 5 (Valera sword) 15 power
Def: 10 (ogre gear + Large Bronze shield= 38 armor)
Strength: 4 (for a Critical hit of 6 and a max hit of 7)
    Health: 19 (23 HP)

or St 3 (critical 5 max 6) but 20 Health for 25 HP)

    Out dated referance material

Also combat guide or beginners guide ? You have woodcutting mining smithing all in at the beginning all crowding out any real information on combat.

Terrible advice keeping the manual open splits attention from combat better advice would be learn the heals before starting most new fighters have limited food so its not difficult.
